12 days of Winter Lovin'

  1. I get into the water again. Although swimming is a love/hate relationship, I love being around the girls who swim. Swimming brings me closer to the girls that don't run into the same social circle as myself. Plus, what else is suppose to keep me from gaining 50 pounds over the holiday's? Smelling of chorine, drying skin and hair, and pruning fingers are three of the many advantages of living in the water for three months.
  2. The winter weather. Cold, brisk, dry winter air is my absolute favorite. Snow falling over the dead grass and bare trees shedding their summer coat, I am filled with happiness and excitement just like a little girl on Christmas.
  3. All you can eat. From November to January, it is nearly impossible for you to go hungry. Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Years eve, family recipes are put to their best use. For all the turkeys, chickens, pigs and cow out there, you'll be my prayers.
  4. Thanks for the tease! Everyone knows that November is infamous for the lack of having to attend school. Never attending school can really make a girl forget that it is not summer break; we do not get three months off.
  5. Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color? I am crazy for Christmas; I am almost as crazy for Christmas as Will Ferrel. Finding the perfect present, decorating the house for the festivities, and listening to holiday music without being looked at funny, it is nearly impossible for someone to be unhappy during the season of giving.
  6. We go hard-er. What gets better than being able to throw balls at people without getting in trouble? Nothing. Although team Ka-Cha got out before the Milkshakes last year, we are new and improved. Hence the name, We go harder.
  7. It's 5 o'clock and already dark. Unlike most people, I love the dark. Gaining an hour isn't terrible either, although it does throw off my mojo.
  8. Out with the old, in with the new. Right now, a new year sounds like exactly what I need. Being able to leave everything from this year, in this year, could really change my perspective on things. Everyone needs to be able to start over fresh, right?
  9. Snow balls on my feet. Two words: Fuzzy Socks. You can sport them now without your feet sweating like a pig! Whether you wear them with mocks, slippers, or all alone; fuzzy socks can bring a little bit of joy into anyone's life.
  10. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. When it is 80 degrees outside and May, snow days are your worst enemy; but in the dead of winter, when no one wants to go to school, they're God little pieces of Heaven on Earth.
  11. It's the little things that count. Sipping hot coco by the fire while gossiping with your favorite people listening to Christmas music play on 102.5 can make almost anyone cheery and joyful. The holiday season really brings out the little things, making you think about what really matters.
  12. Keep your family close. As teenagers, we are programmed to complain about spending time with our family. Little do the adults know: we secretly love it. Being around the people that will love us unconditionally, and look past each of our flaws; family is what we have, no matter what.

  1. I completely enjoyed reading this, coming into winter. When I swam, I felt like wanting to complain to the board of education about it being in the winter, and us standing outside in our bathing suits, what fun we had. I smiled as I continued to read down your list, I had to say my favorite had to be number 12, about how we secretly hid how we really feel when it comes to family get togethers, it makes you feel wanted other then your friends. Your blog inspires me to do something similar, with your permission of course, this was a great read, and I'm greatful for Primeau putting you first on my paper. :)

  3. I too LOVE winter. It's weird, because a majority of people get happier in the summer, but it is the opposite for me. I love the cold, I love the holidays, I love the dark.

Thanksgiving shall be hard for my first vegetarian holiday, but I'm looking forward to getting to see family again. We'll have to get together to make some tofurkey :)

Number five. I love to give! I just bought an Alice and Wonderland book for a drive at Barnes and Nobel yesterday. Teach some kiddos some good literature!

  4. Brooke, I am on the same page with you when it comes to winter. I just love it. The feeling of the new year gets closer and when it reaches us, it is like a life shower, refreshing us from our past year of troubles and struggles.

Winter also brings the great feeling of reconnection as well. Reconnecting with friends, family, and sometimes, even ourselves.

I find it ironic that whenever it gets cold, people come together, outside in the snow, or inside celebrating a holiday. It is just the magic of winter. Overall I really enjoyed reading your blog entry, and can't wait for number two :)

  5. Smort: Of course you can copy my format. It’s nice to see that someone likes my blog that much! If swim was in the fall or spring, it would be so much more enjoyable; but having swim in the winter, makes it more interesting.
King Swagga: Why do you like to swim around females? Does it make you uncomfortable to be around males while being in swim suits?
Bethsaywhaa: Thanksgiving is going to be hard for a first timer vegetarian, but with the will power and strength, you can get through it. This being my 4th thanksgiving without eating meat, it is easy as tying my shoe. Thankfully I have the most wonderful aunt in the world, she makes me special food. I cannot believe I forgot to put that in there! I love giving and sharing what I have with those who are less fortunate.
T-Horn: I couldn’t agree with you anymore Horn. It is wonderful knowing you get to restart. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? If so, what is generally on there? I like how you worded, “reconnecting with friends, family, and sometimes, even ourselves.” I think the winter gives us more time to think, and think about the choices we have made throughout that past year. I too, cannot wait for the first snow :)
